10 Things I Hate About You 1999
Rides the line between “they don’t make movies like this anymore” and “feels like it was written yesterday.” Almost every joke is a home run. Poor Things 2023
Bella’s denial of becoming a mindless zombie, though admitting at times would be relieving, to instead pursue the constant effort it takes to really be alive is so profoundly effective on me. I love the different traps one can fall into represented in different men. I love the expression of knowledge equating to freedom in this. I love the movie’s expression of nature and nurture as a united force. I love how curious Bella is, I love how much she wanders. I think this performance from Emma Stone is going to stand out as one of the greats from this decade.
