I can’t imagine anyone else playing the role of Benji as perfectly as Kieran Culkin. There is no doubt in my mind that he is going to win an Oscar; his performance is full of emotional vulnerability, honesty, and charm. A Real Pain also does an excellent job of depicting just how nuanced and layered relationships can be, and how difficult it is to love someone like Benji. Jesse Eisenberg puts it best: “I love him, I hate him, I want to kill him, I want to be him.”

Saturday Night 2024
I think I would have enjoyed this concept more if it had been reworked into an actual documentary. I really wanted to like it, especially as a fan of SNL and given the strong casting choices, but I just don’t feel like it added anything new. Does Saturday Night create a tense feeling of uncertainty about whether they’ll make it to air? No, we already know they do. Does it provide novel insight into the original cast? Also no. So, what was the point? Who was this for?

The French Dispatch 2021
We get it, you’re Wes Anderson. Disjointed, uneventful, and pretentious… but with style.
