Kill is action movie heaven, but its ambitions lay beyond its bone-crunching, blood splattering violence. Perspectives and perceptions of violence depends on the perpetrators and victims. Here, these roles keep shifting, blurring even. Kill belongs in the same league as The Raid and the John Wick movies. Yes, its that good. Actually scratch that, it may even be better.
Five years ago, possibly to the day, I went to watch the first Aquaman. The theatre was packed to the brim with an audience that hooted and cheered as the titular hero fought Black Manta, and challenged his brother Orm’s claim to the throne of Atlantis. On paper, a Seven Samurai-Star Wars mashup directed by Zack Snyder sounds like something that cannot go wrong. Unfortunately, Rebel Moon Part 1 does. It is middling, muddled and mediocre. As someone who has mostly either liked or loved Snyder’s earlier work, this one is a disappointment. The narrative appears to be hacked to bits and the stakes do not feel real.
