Phantasm 1 is one of the most unique, weird, mystical and creepy movies of it's time.
Phantasm 2 builds upon those themes while adding an action vibe alongside incredibly fun special effects and memorable horror scenes.
Phantasm 3 is a odd copycat of two that squashes the series originality with cheesey 80s cliches and dopey sidekicks. (no doubt played that way for fun, but the movie came out in the 90s!!!)

Eggers proves once again he is a master of gothic cinema. This is a perfect remake of the original classic horror film. A particular old school influenced gothic itch is scratched when viewing a Eggers film. (Only matched by Guillermo Del Toro imo)
Nosferatu utilizes a limited color pallette that brings a similar yet more engaging feel to black and white. The lighting is downright impressive and seemingly accurate to a time where natural light and candles provided it.

When purveyors of extreme cinema are telling you to avoid this I think that means a lot.
I'll just leave some recommendations to watch with similar content instead of this piece of trash:
I Spit On Your Grave (o g. or remake), Last House On The Left (West Craven), The House That Jack Built, Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, Martyrs
Or just watch August Underground. Also a found footage style and pushes limits. It was made with so much more integrity and by a director that doesn't feel like he is a pedo living out his fantasies.
