This movie just casually shows what Joy Luck Club went to great lengths to explain. But this movie couldn't have existed without Joy Luck Club.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs 2018
The six vignettes almost trace a stylistic/thematic path through the Coens' career.
1 (Tim Blake Nelson) - Very darkly funny.
2 (James Franco) - Effortlessly funny with the lightest touch of poignancy.
3 (Liam Neeson) - Dark and unsettling. My least favorite of the six.
4 (Tom Waits) - Just brilliant and profound and beautiful. The stand out for me.
5 (Zoe Kazan) - Heartbreaking and bleak as hell.
6 (Tyne Daly) - Thought provoking, somber, ambiguous.Translated from by

Shallow Hal 2001
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I'm of two minds on this film. The premise is actually really sweet, and I really liked Paltrow's character and her circle of friends (which, duh), but the movie seemed like it wanted to have it both ways: decry our inability to get past looks while at the same time, fat jokes - 'Haha, she's so fat! She broke her chair.' Maybe I'm asking a lot of the Farrelly brothers.
Also, the weird subplot of Jason Alexander's character having a tail? Inexplicable beyond keeping up their streak of having someone with a physical/mental defect in every movie.

Dennis the Menace Strikes Again! 1998
This movie was horrible. So broad as to bear no resemblance to human activity or speech. It's entire existence is an insulting f-you to the intelligent viewer.
Then again, my 85-year-old Chinese grandmother-in-law found it hilarious, so who am I to say?
