Ordinary People 1980
I watched this film at the IFC Center today as part of its Donald Sutherland retrospective. And in 35mm no less. All I could think the entire time was "This is the kind of film that people say Hollywood doesn't make anymore." Of course, these films do get made still, but they aren't the must-see films for today's mainstream moviegoer. And that's very sad to me. It's beautiful on every level. And wow! Timothy Hutton is brilliant. Mary Tyler Moore is astounding. And Donald Sutherland proves why he was a big star for decades. I immediately wanted to watch this film again.
