still had a grand old time on a rewatch (phenomenal acting, all around solid action comedy blockbuster, mushy romance that makes me want to kick my feet) but still can't quite get over how lacklustre the writing can be--of course i know this is not meant to be a parasite level in storytelling craft and i don't need it to be, but surely a guy can hope for at least something a little sharper and less on the nose than "fascism and capitalism bad"

for a film priding itself on "reversing the script", it is more than evident that they/them is made by a cis white gay man, surprising no genderqueer person. having all queer people survive and all transphobes and homophobes die does not make this a progressive queer piece of cinema, just like how a masked killer slashing people's throats open…
