At one point in the third act a kid behind me yelled “what even is going on anymore in this movie??” and everyone in the theater laughed.
Lots of funny animation gags and it’s a short 90 minutes which is nice. Worth seeing if you’re an animation nerd or loved cartoons growing up. Bummer it’s barely getting advertised and playing in almost no theaters.
Honestly very Substance-coded. An evil wizard uses “dark magic” to grant his wishes at the cost of his own youth and life force??
Really fun and whimsical but left a lot to be desired.
The absurdism worked really well for me. Really funny and silly. Incredible performances from Robert Pattinson, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffallo. Had a ton of entertainment value and I had a great time.

A few scattered thoughts:

- I can’t believe I watched A Bug’s Life one night and this the next lmao
- one of the most masterfully directed movies I’ve seen in recent memory. Everything is so intentional.…
