Monumental piece for German Cinema.
Refugee Francis aspires to become a good person, but only digs himself deeper and deeper in the quicksand of the criminal underbelly of Berlin. Myriads of wrong decisions, the incapability of discerning artificially produced from real emotions, hopelessness. The three hours really feel like at least three hours. You gotta appreciate suffering through a movie before doing this to yourself.

A lot has been said about the shortcomings of this film regarding the communities it is failing to represent in ways that are helpful or at least not hurtful.
But on top of all that it’s also just a really bad movie. A ton of bad ideas that should’ve been stopped in their tracks. The few ideas that could’ve turned into something cool or original were really poorly executed. Usually I love to appreciate good things in something bad and I hate to be a hater - but I enjoyed nothing about this.
