A newly married young couple find that the only house within their means is a derelict mansion which comes with several ghosts. However this isn’t an early iteration of BBC sitcom “Ghosts” but a rather cliched and cheap postwar “quota quickie” though it does at least end with a slight twist. The main mystery is what the hall is called- the film is also known as The Ghost of Rashmon Hall, but the book that reveals the story refers to it as Rammelsham Hall and the local yokels say something else.

sex, lies, and videotape 1989
Found this quite boring when it first came out and after 35 years I can’t really see any reason to change my view. All four leads put in good performances but it’s so slow and, curiously given the theme, unemotional. I did learn that Americans think Graham is an odd name, so it wasn’t all a waste of time.

Cross-Roads 1955
Believed to be one of Christopher Lee’s first films, a low budget but effective ghost story which shows that future Saruman/Dracula was destined to be a star. A totally forgotten short film that can be found for free on the BFI player
