Hideaki Anno took so many risks in this series and did not let anyone alter his vision for this beautifully told, immensely impactful story. The single most important piece of media to me in my life. I doubt this will ever change. This introduced me to the beauty of Japanese culture and has shaped my life and interests in ways I only realize now.
From a film perspective it’s a true masterpiece to me. It gets full marks in just about every category and masterfully brings you into its magical world.
