only regina, karen & janis had any stage presence or charisma, cady couldn’t sing, act, or hold a scene (and her hair was WHACK the whole time 🤬), too many forced modern references that are gonna age like milk and are already cringe a year later (“she ate, like house down” 🤢), & visually BORING. costumes, hair, makeup, set, camerawork, WHACK. it’s so desperate to distinguish itself from the 2004 original but so many lines are word for word and literally frame for frame that it ends up constantly inviting comparison and it ALWAYS comes up short. this is destined to be forgotten

girlbossing the hypersexualisation of minors and romanticising their predators is not a vibe, regardless of when it is set. very dodgy lesbian representation (coming from a lesbian) with a scarring cello scene that sexualises rather than celebrating us. many of the protagonists were unlikeable and had no development to make us like them, despite impeccable acting from all which, combined with beautiful cinematography, unfortunately wasn’t enough to redeem the film, in my view. I have not read the book, but from what I have seen I believe it may have transferred better to stage rather than to film.
