Rocky Balboa 2006

Night Falls 1952
Pedro Armendariz is probably the most overrated mexican actor of all time. Almost in every classic mexican film I see him perform I feel an "uncanny valley" thing I eventually turn off for the sake of my enjoyment of the movie (seeing him without his moustache added another layer of oddness this time around). Fortunately he was a class act, and was always surrounded by a talented director, cinematographer and co-stars, and this film is no-exception.

Pretty straightforward narrative with the plot of the typical parody wannabe Hollywood screenwritter character: "Guy is looking for killer but realizes he is looking for himself" except this actually exists and sometimes kinda pulls it off.
The construction of this film is captivating, and before everything unfolds quite evidently by the midpoint, the director succeeds in putting you into the mind of the character, second-guessing every situation and speculating your own conclusions about what's going on.
