    Man, I forgot how much of an ass Jim Carrey’s character was. He’s very much the agent of his own destruction, which the movie manages to demonstrate and underline without explicitly saying - notable for a film with very little subtlety. 

    Outside of parting the tomato soup, I found the gag miracles a little lacklustre. Also surprising is how much death and suffering Carrey causes that is not undone. The film hints at some very dark ideas but never explores…

    Exactly the kind of movie that made comedies a dirty word in the 00s, something they still haven’t recovered from. Most of the jokes have rape as the punchline…and somehow that isn’t even the worst of the gender politics in the film.
