Bad move to title this 'Sorcerer' when you've just done 'The Exorcist' -probably a big reason it flopped. There is no "Sorcere in this; it's about men and trucks and dynamite. Viewing it 40 + years later, its on-location reality is scintillating, but the overwrought Roy Schnider 'acting' not so much. Watch the original - a minimalist classic!

Interesting idea to pair up toothy caricature Christopher Waltz and supreme naturalist Amy Adams as the showman and the true artist, but somehow it doesn't really work. It's like they're from two different movies. It's a great idea for a 'stranger than fiction story' though, perfect for Tim Burton. Not sure if it was the format I was watching (iTunes, HD), but it looked very brightly lit, somehow making it seem less 'cinematic' and more like a TV feature.

If you're into watching an elderly man open and reseal plastic bags and operate zippers, then this is the film for you.
If there were a specialist sub-genre of films that are characterised a special focus on the details of small, manual actions - the only other one I can think of right now is 'A Man Escaped' - this film would be right up there.
Having said that though, this is an oddly compelling survival thriller - 'Castaway' without…
