For a psychotic burn victim who is incapable of feeling physical pain, this dark fellow doesn't put himself in the line of fire often.
It's okay. Definitely got a few good laughs out of me. That lovely Raimi campiness is in full swing here. I love Darkman's silly skeleton jaw. That carnival scene is honestly worth a half-star on its own. Past all that, not much deeper is really happening here.
I know what it's like to know something about someone that nobody else knows. What it's like to waste countless hours lying in bed, processing what you know over and over, hoping to see something else in it all but being unable to. What it's like to see them for the first time through the warped lens of the truth. The pain of a secret. The pain of realizing someone you love isn't who you thought they were. This movie…
John Carpenter hates the bourgeoisie more than me, and I'm a communist.
It's only a 3.5/5 from me because I feel like this movie has no interesting characters. I can see how that could be intentional, as it makes it easier to superimpose onesself into the place of John, but that doesn't change how I feel in this instance. Also, it's kind of hard to watch some of the action scenes as a U.S. citizen today. Hits a little too close to home.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
The way this movie ushers you down an endless spiral of dead ends is unlike anything I've seen yet. I did not expect this movie to be so good, and when I say good, I mean genre-defining can't-go-without-mentioning-it good.
The only criticism I have of the movie is that does put all its weight on Arthur Leigh. We genuinely have no idea who the real Zodiac was, and it just as easily could have been someone else.
