I don’t quite understand why this movie received so much hate. I don’t think it was made to dive into the complexity of Napoleon’s character but was made the dive into the complexities of war & conquer. The script was good. Great production, set, war choreography, as expected; Ridley Scott is certainly talented at this particular thing. I’ll write a more comprehensive review later but this movie captures the reality of alcoholic addiction. Loved the acting, the dialogue, although it was (for me) emotionally hollow.
As always, stunning visuals and storyline. Of course it touches on the subject of life, death, grief, and commitment. I’d expect nothing less from Miyazaki. Not his best work, yet I enjoyed it nonetheless. Maybe if I was Japanese I could understand the emotions more as it tells a story about how World War II looked like from a young boy's viewpoint and how the modernization and Westernization affected Japan.
