Nosferatu 2024
it’s hard to make Nosferatu a third time and make it unique, but I think Eggers managed—though his distended take mostly reinforces how perfect Murnau’s original is.
The most interesting idea for me is how this movie is haunted: whether by past iterations of itself, Eggers’ past projects, or cultural conceptions of the vampire and the vampire movie. Reckoning with these is the unfortunate cost of making a Dracula and, while I can’t parse the various threads of differance Eggers deals with after one watch, what he brings to the conversation is worth a look.
