Perfect Blue 1997
Starts off slow but the way it unfolds is so layered and horrifying, two thirds in I felt like I was losing my mind. While the animation and the portrayal of internet culture are obviously a bit dated, a lot of what this movie has to say about the way the entertainment industry and society in general treats women still stands today. Plus the way it screens and digitality function as accelerators is also a great additional layer. I'll think about this one for a while.

Mushi-Shi 2005
This did things to me that are hard to put into words. While there's not much of an arc to this show, almost all of the episodes function as little standalone fables, there's so much contained within these stories. The existence of the mushi opens up a really big, poetic space for tales about acceptence, regret, grief, perception, belonging, family, our relationship to the world around us and the unknown.
