You know that idea where the powers that be allow the masses to have art about rebelling against power so they can feel like they're rebelling by consuming but are actually just being placated by it? This is that, but it also acknowledges that it's that, but that doesn't actually change anything, but it acknowledges that too, and you can go down the rabbit hole forever.

When I was a teenager I'd watch dumb blockbuster adaptations of big IPs and…

It makes me so mad this is probably gonna win the cinematography Oscar because its aesthetic looks like you gave a YouTube production crew a huge budget and they went nuts without updating their style at all. It's all blues and CGI blood, mud and artificial feeling digital crispness. For what's supposed to be an anti-war film it sure does revel in gore.

It just doesn't have anything to say besides "war is hell". No shit. I've seen 20 movies…

It’s definitely the least (and the least bold) of the lonely island-verse but god damn this thing had some funny bits in it

Extremely fucking funny. 2 or 3 gags that made me just laugh maniacally. I thought that being shown the multiple endings sequentially got a bit long in the tooth, and the movie starts kind of slow, but when it was rolling, my god, what a good time.

The least functional film I’ve ever been extremely moved by. Legit cried for ages after this was over. I’m gonna seriously look into factory farming in Australia and see how I can avoid supporting/contributing to it. At the same time though, this is 3/4 a really wacky children’s cartoon and 1/4 a brutal PETA infomercial. Gyllenhaal and Swinton are giving GI Joe-ass performances. They’re very funny! But also incoherent. The tone is all over the place. Ahn Seo-hyun is really really good! I was very attached to Okja. I clutched my cat to my chest when it was over. The movie is barely holding together.

I can feel this movie swirling in my head. It's gonna stick with me for a while. The way repression breeds this specific quiet sadness that just consumes you. The fear of finally deciding to take the leap into the unknown. Learning that the people who made you feel like you can still hurt you all the same.

Also it's very goofy and funny. Lots of inspired batman jokes and visual gags. I think the final sequence is one quirk…
