somehow never caught the entirety of cats don’t dance growing up on cable as a kid, so watching this for the first time in full felt kind of like a special personal treat. similar to the feeling i’d go through whenever any cartoon channel would air a movie i didn’t physically own back then. so i’m really happy to admit i immediately divided all my utmost attention to it as soon i hit play, all these years later.

lion starts off so strongly in the way it captures all the intricate emotions and fears found in a child who’s lost and away from home. bound with really chilling framing to heighten the differences in scaling between him and the pronounced architecture that either towered over him or sheltered him. showcasing a beautiful depiction of india throughout, even in its harsh reality that could easily be spoken for in any other place across the world…
