While watching this film I was thinking about how my problem with it was exactly what my issue with Portrait of a Lady on Fire was, until something clicked with the very last shot. This was when I realized that this movie isn’t trying to be pretentious at all, and is even vehemently against it. This film thrives off the concepts of imperfection and incompletion - even to the point of breaking narrative structures to feel downright boring, as life sometimes is. That doesn’t make for the most exhilarating viewing experience, but there is something important about seeing humanity in honest.
