Heat 1995
I told myself for years that I really wanted to watch Heat, only to spend the first half of the movie truly hating it. Things started to turn around when Vincent and Neil got coffee and it stayed pretty solid from there on out. I enjoyed the cat and mouse game between LAPD and Neil’s group, but every other plot line felt like a dud. Sure they informed the characters’ motives—but for such minimal payoff. Now that I have the foresight that the first half is something to endure rather than relish, I could see myself enjoying this on a rewatch.

V for Vendetta 2005
V for Vendetta, starring:
• some Reddit-using, fedora-wearing guy in a wig
• Natalie Portman’s awful British accent
• a bunch of easily confused old white guys
• an excellent depiction of “trauma bonding” in its true meaningI think if I saw this movie in 2005 I would’ve thought it was epic, but I didn’t, so it wasn’t.
