    Half Human

    ★★

As the next monster film that director Ishiro Honda worked on after the original Godzilla, hopes we're incredibly high. Unfortunately, despite inklings of an interesting story about man versus nature and the human propensity to disturb the natural order of things, the entire film is just fraught with uninteresting characters, drawn out boring sections with little going on, and even a dash of prejudice thrown in resulting in the film's ultimate ban in Japan. Learning from the mistakes and lessons learned in the first film from 1954 and creating a truly special film that hits similar themes but with more weight. Instead, the film crumbles under this pressure and ends up a shockingly dull film compared to its predecessor.

To be clear, not everything is horrible about this entry…

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Every couple of years, around the holiday season, I loop back to a movie franchise that I adore and that reminds me of the magic and joy of the holidays. Is past years it has been The Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. This year, it's Harry Potter. For a film to be about wizards and witches, mythical beasts and mysterious secrets, it has to have a charm to it. The first Harry Potter film lives or dies based…
