About as good as you would expect from Eggers, but also not amazing. I don't know if it's because it's an adaptation of an adaptation or what, but I never really felt much dread or suspense until the final moments. Great performances all around by the cast, and the look and feel are spot on.

Felt overlong, unpleasant, and mostly predictable. Telegraphs most of its punches, and just left me feeling icky. Seems like they wrote themselves into a corner for number 3.

A creative retelling of the deeds of Theseus with the wild expressionist vision of Tarsem. Weird, but full of amazing visuals. I think Henry Cavill smiles more in this than in Man of Steel, which is a shame.

    ★★★★

Touching, funny, unsettling, and dark, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio surpasses any version of this classic folktale yet put to screen. Even Disney's classic re-telling seems light on substance compared to this. A wonderful adaptation with amazing stop-motion animation, and great voice performances to boot. Cate Blanchett as a monkey is fantastic. I want to see the footage of her recording sessions.
