Finally watched this cultural landmark. Surprised by the lowfi production style which was probably common at the time. The acting is interesting as it's bad in some ways, but also somehow better / more enjoyable than in modern porn. I will say that Lovelace has remarkable stage presence. The rocket/bells/fireworks imagery was a nice touch. The whole thing just kinda lost its direction midway through and kind of ended it with one last gag which was funny but would have required better equipment to properly pull it off.

Many things in this initially gave me the ick as I tend to dislike overly historical looking period pieces. But I can't deny that this seems very honest and accurate as it doesn't feel overstated at all (perhaps even understated). The acting of some cast members is phenomenal. I was hooked throughout.
One downside to me is that the movie doesn't really show the scale of it all as it's only concerned with the established few characters and presupposes more…

That fucking sucked, gawddamn. They managed to have every single performance be painfully wooden, even the frickin extras are cringey to watch. I genuinely believe they went with the first take for EVERYTHING because this is levels of bad I have rarely seen in my miserable life. There‘s amateurish plot holes and terribly executed half-baked ideas all over the place to the point I was genuinely wondering if this was a money laundering scheme. Cause you bet there was product…

At first I thought it was just lots of missed potential. But this is absolutely terrible, holy fucking shit. My liked comments express it way better than I ever could. Plain disgusted.
Whoever uses this movie as a political argument lands on my blacklist.
