I'm so glad Robert Patinson got to lead this. I don't know if anyone else could have done it. The political commentary was relevant without feeling overdone. Toni Colette was so hate-able. Seeing Mickey be a malewife was so good. I have more thoughts but I really just want to see this again. Definitely worth seeing in Xtreme.
Got to see it with Gus and Maariam to celebrate Maariam's birthday :) thank you for inviting me, Marm.
Really really wish the producer hadn't talked the director into doing a male and female lead to appeal to people looking for romance (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzume) I'm so glad it lead to Chair but it definitely took away from the actual themes and messages. Common complaint is that "Your Name did this better/this is just another, worse Your Name" and that is simply. Not. True. They are different you guys are just bat a movies.
The main themes were different and still…
I remembered halfway through the movie that this was a tragedy. And the second half was definitely sad. Is this the best adaptation of Romeo and Juliet ever? Maybe. Probably. It is my favorite.
I really really liked how distinct but memorable each character was as well. Mercutio was perfect from his first appearance.
From the intro of the news introduction in Shakespearen English I was hooked. Everything else just elevated it. I'm glad I went in just expecting an artsy Romeo and Juliet retelling. It was that and so much more. Especially with the religious context and imagery.
