    This film could NEVER be made today. I wish instead of realistic backgrounds all movies were made at weird angles and clearly on sets. Like I don’t know if backgrounds get as good as some of silent cinema, and then some of the awesome backgrounds in 1970s/80s Japanese cinema like Kwaidan and Tokyo Drifter.

    Saw this with a live organist accompaniment, incredible. There was a raffle before the film and my loss has left me heartbroken

    Before the film started someone yelled “can I get a screen test? There seems to be a reflection on the screen” to which someone left of me said “it’s just a shadow from the light behind the door.”

    A lot of moving thoughts in this film, choosing to be free, accepting that choice when one knows it leaves you vulnerable to violence. Trying to find the quote but they mention a poem, something like “one must achieve life before being ready to die.”
