It's been a long time since I've seen a piece of cinema that moved my emotions and provoked thought like this one did. Varda's careful exploration of modern and historical gleaning/scavenging/dumpster diving left me thinking about scarcity, abundance, and humanity. It's not one I'll soon forget and will likely annoy my friends for years to come by bringing it up all the time!
I had high hopes for this movie since I tend to enjoy most things by David Lowery, but was fairly disappointed. It's beautifully shot and pretty to look at, but overall felt empty -- like it was trying too hard to be "deep" without working to achieve much depth in any of the characters.
