  i found a thesis allison murphy had written on the idea of cheburashka being representative of the soviet jewish experience and how he as a character is a subversion of the rootless cosmopolitan trope and i haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. truly an under-appreciated russian jewish icon.

  toxic masculinity personified. a couple things to note:

  1. this was the most homoerotic homophobic movie i’ve ever watched 
  2. the only people of color were barbarized others, so fuckin’ yikes there
  3. the color grading in this is a crime against humanity
  4. amazing example of women’s bodies being displayed as part of a male sexual fantasies and men’s bodies being displayed as part of a male power fantasy. the fact that the sex scene lingers on lena headley’s…
