I loved it the first time in theater, and I still think this one holds up. If this had been a stand alone movie, it would be considered a classic of the genre imo. But people were tired of the formula by then, even though PA3 is the best entry in the series from my perspective. The jump scares are solid, the pacing is good (a problem with the first two), and the kids are genuine (especially the actress who plays Kristi). Forever scared of tiny attic closets and children with imaginary friends
My only criticism is that the editing sometimes feels strangely timed, which in a way reflects the unfinished source material from which the film is drawn. Beyond that, a documentary that well deserves the accolades it received upon release. The film places Baldwin’s work and interviews into the context of their time and presents a valuable eye witness perspective of the Civil Rights movement. Samuel L. Jackson provides beautiful narration that perfectly matches the poignant clarity of Baldwin’s writing.
People who review the remake higher than this one are incorrect. Hilarious from start to finish, thoroughly enjoyable
