This was one of those films where in the moment I was confused, however at different points in the film when I tried to make sense of earlier scenes it made complete sense. This is usually down to the material in the film being incredibly dense and there being so much to unpack - that's definitely the case in this film.

Charlie Chaplin was often seen as behind the times before and including this film - he rarely used speech, and in this film that is no different. Much of the film has either a typical self-composed Chaplin-esque score or orchestral hits that coincide with whatever is happening at the time, but that doesn't stop this film from being both hilarious and a proper capture of how Chaplin saw working class spirit.

I love Studio Ghibli. They've had a huge impact on Japanese cinema, international animated cinema and many people's lives. An awful lot of Americans grew up with huge Ghibli hits like this one due to Disney licensing them for a period of time.
