animation always gives you a certain kind of childlike feel but what’s special is that it was an adult topic, at least in my perspective. it was so impactful with the soundtrack. the only negative for me was PROBABLY the beginning because i have anxiety so the sequence of events being so jumbled and quick caused high tension (though that might be the intention). a sweet message and just good ole’ fun. from my past reviews you could note how much the aspect of fun and viewing experiences impacts the rating. made me sob so yk WHY WOULD IT BE BELOW A 4?
entertaining enough to watch but couldn’t get past every single bad feeling this movie gave me. i truly did like the scenes with the younger versions of the characters but it doesn’t take the sour taste out of my mouth from the rest of the movie. it felt inauthentic with small moments that make up for it. i really do wish i felt better about this film so it was a better experience. overall… it was just okay.

this film shoves racist stereotypes down your throat throughout the entire thing. it doesn’t accurately depict, describe, or navigate systematic oppression naturally. it’s forced, melodramatic, and doesn’t explore the nuances of prejudice.
