Wowzas! What an introduction to Alice Rohrwachers world! It was just delicious to see a film that effortlessly stands in the magical neo-realism genre. Rohrwacher has such control over the form. Every risk works. A beautiful, poetic and at times very weird exploration of a man dealing with grief and his supernatural ability to spot where ancient tombs are buried. Just magic.

I really loved this film. I got swept up in the humour, the charm, the outlandish adventures and the tinsel in Anora’s hair. However, upon further reflection I was disappointed with the total lack of backstory of the title character. Who is Anora? Why does she do the things she does?
