  we move very quickly from sentimental Normal People–style class critique to individual pathology (this middle class guy is a psychopath!!!!) which really kneecaps any social point the film thought it might have wanted to make besides “rich people are NUTS” and “every gay movie must have its peach scene”

  ok my opinion on rapidfire supercuts is that they are the revenge of the male auteur ego who no longer is content to simply orchestrate plots but must now exert total choreographic control over a viewer's attention while expecting that viewer to sustain detached interestedness in the auteur's particular anthologizing of cinematic history even as they can't psychically roam around in the shots or plot.

  at the same time, if you can stomach it, it's a wonderful meditation on gesture and he does some brilliant things with doors and bead curtains and horses.

  the parts should have been reversed.
