The Wind Rises 2013
An absolute masterpiece and arguably Miyazaki's finest work. The Wind Rises masterfully explores Miyazaki's notion that artistry is misery. Jiro's wanting to create beautiful things comes at odds with a world that is only concerned with utility. Not only does Miyazaki explore themes of art as misery but also how art is able to capture beauty in and of itself and it's ability to transcend time and space. An absolutely amazing swan song to arguably the greatest artist in the animated genre.
