Predator 1987
I found the commentary on trusting institutions interesting given the context of when this was released. Vietnam instantly came to mind while watching considering the guerilla warfare, and excessive force. However, this takes place in Central America, which the US never saw itself in, so perhaps Vietnam comes to mind because the US coups elsewhere have not been as televised. Perhaps Arnold’s character represents America’s own confusion or denial, with Dillon’s insistence to “wake up” directed at the audience.

Chalte Chalte 2003
At first I admired this movie for taking a bold direction by revealing the potential realities of marriage. However this film forces us to sympathise with him to the point of wanting us to take his side completely when he's incredibly toxic! The resolution sends such a terrible message and is ultimately played for laughs with her family finding the situation funny despite Everything that happened. Such a shame, ugh.
