For a movie about the papal conclave, this sure was about the US election! When Fiennes asked Tucci if Lithgow had offered him the Secretary of State position for his support, I groaned.

for transparency's sake, this movie could not have convinced me of anything. i believe in palestinian sovereignty, in the right to return, in the dismantling of israeli apartheid. nor does this movie spur hope of a future of co-existence between Israel and Palestine. For all of Yuval's good intentions and acknowledgement of his nation's cruelty to Palestine, he inevitably still believes in Israel, in a two state solution, in harmony.

- ellen's new role in this story was the anchor of my enjoyment here. transforming orlok into a manifestation of her loneliness, her desires, her repression and shame was an inspired choice. as she embraces him until the light of dawn, dissolving away her haunting guilt.... themes!
- in the same vein, i enjoy the shift of orlok from a purely external force invading an innocent city to a somewhat internal demon demanding acknowledgment.
