So fucking peak. While the sci-fi stuff is by far the worst aspect of the show and quite clunky at times, luckily it doesn't distract from the absolutely fantastic characters that are the heart of this show. I love them all so much, and I was really caught off guard by how emotional the ending was.

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion 1997

Definitely feels like a more definitive and true ending to the series, but I do like how it doesn't completely retcon the original ending, which can now be interpreted as going more into depth about the characters feelings during Instrumentality. As an actual ending, it's basically just as confusing and up to interpretation as original, but that's to be expected with Evangelion. I very much like that it's not as obviously positive as the original ending, being a depressing end to the series, but one with hope for the fate of humanity, unlike the original, which left that part unclear.
