  Master class on historical fiction on tragedy with treating topic judiciously. Consistently personal which makes the emotional weight even heavier. Great visuals- could barely think of negatives minus some choreography that felt a little off.

  Hauntingly, grotesquely, beautiful - some thrills in beginning feel cheap, but the movie gets better as it goes on. Good modern retelling.

  Loveeeee how vampiric allure and mind control are shown within the film with the constant eroticism, lustful feelings shown toward the grotesque count, and the dumb-founded confusion of characters encountering inexplicable things (Thomas in first half of movie). Powerful depiction of complex emotions surrounding a victim of abuse with Ellen’s perspective- from guilt, to allure in their abuser, to their strength. Gotta watch the original and update this review with comparison.
