  Watching this as an adult is something else. The baseball pitch scene at the end should’ve been a Roman Polanski-style sting to entrap her paedo ass.

  3 stars because it’s annoyingly good despite the many distasteful themes

  Stranger than fiction could possibly produce, reclusive mother and daughter Big Edie and Little Edie live a solitary life in which the past is more vivid than the present, peripheral strangers take centre stage in elaborate fantasy narratives and bitter recriminations are exchanged on a daily basis. It’s interesting how the two are perfectly distilled examples of their class, yet total aberrations at the same time.

  Some really great bits: Reece Shearsmith emerging from the tent addled by drugs, and later cramming mushrooms into his mouth. Thought it worked well as a political allegory and had an appealing assurance in its tone and creative decisions.
