Babygirl 2024
This movie is a masterful blend of the awkward cuckholdry of EYES WIDE SHUT, the alien corporate backstabbing/ ambition of FAIR PLAY, and just the right amount of Harris Dickinson as a skeevy ratboy that it made me want to crawl out of my skin. I can acknowledge it is well made, (especially liked the score) just not made for me, particularly as someone who fails to see the purpose of corporate hierarchy.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 2014
I find it hard to thoroughly enjoy films that paint bleak portraits of the future of humanity. They tend to really bum me out. However, the humans who are featured in this movie are mainly sidelined to the inherent drama of the apes sliding into their own humanity. The drama and emotion is potent, but still, a little depressing. Also has some truly spectacular set pieces, including an ape riding a horse while blazing two machine guns at the same time.

As someone who followed Roger Ebert as a blogger, and who spends their free time checking out old Siskel and Ebert reviews, I was a little worried that this documentary might end up being a rehash of a bunch of information that I had already known about Ebert. However, Steve James offers a poignant look at his life as a whole, and some particularly moving footage of Ebert going through rehab.
