Fade to Black 1980
I was really surprised by this one. I didn’t have expectations going in and was surprised by the sincerity and tragedy that unfolded, given that the premise sounds silly at first blush.
But the acting for our protagonist is nuanced and pulled together, with edges of him grating but still open to empathize with. He is a hurt person. He hurts people in turn. He earns the spotlight he craves.
