  I was really surprised by this one. I didn’t have expectations going in and was surprised by the sincerity and tragedy that unfolded, given that the premise sounds silly at first blush.

  But the acting for our protagonist is nuanced and pulled together, with edges of him grating but still open to empathize with. He is a hurt person. He hurts people in turn. He earns the spotlight he craves.

  I feel really conflicted. I did enjoy it for the celebration of queerness and Australian drag, but the sheer concentrated amount of racism toward a single character was astounding.

  This was a movie that could have ended 10 minutes earlier. At least 10 minutes. What is left to say about this movie that hasn’t already been said? Its politics are couched firmly in the past and the references to Psycho (arguably acting as more of a skeleton for Dressed to Kill) were more grating and gratuitous than inspired.
