Another film that makes me feel incredibly dumb for slapping a star rating on it, because it just feels meaningless. If only rating things wasn’t so fun :(

Contains incredible scenes, performances, cinematography, you name it, but I ultimately found it to be a bit less than the sum of it's parts. Everything that takes place at the karaoke bar is perfect, and that scene in my opinion shows what this could have been if it was a bit more focused.
Something to be said for appreciating something for what it is and not for what I would personally want it to be, though.
Can’t help but feel disappointed with this one. Plenty of silly, weird and shocking Lanthimos but the writing (especially the dialogue) didn’t work nearly as well for me here as it did in The Lobster, The Favourite or Poor Things. At times it felt like Lanthimos was just screaming “look at how fucked up these relationships are, look at how fucked up WE are, LOOK AT IT” and it just does not compare to his previous films.

Definitely don’t think I picked up on everything this was going for, but what I did pick up on was great. Bit sad nobody else showed up for this screening, would’ve liked to see how other people would’ve reacted with how uncomfortable parts of this made me feel.
