Adolescence 2025

Technically brilliant with immense talent all around. Stephen Graham’s performance is really something to behold. Him laying the flowers down at the crime scene as we watch him mourn for not just the loss of his son, but a sort of lost innocence that the world will never gain back after this era, is a gut punch.
That being said, I think this could have used another episode or two. We never revisit the cop and his son, whom I…

A ton of fun at the movies! Jack Quaid is a hoot and a half! Not a big fan of where the plot twist goes because I don’t think Sherry deserved redemption in the end, but it’s not a ruiner for me or anything. I think the action sequences are great - better than I would expect from a silly mid-budget March release. Ray Nicholson is as unsettling and evil as ever. Can’t complain.

The Brutalist 2024
Oof, big hit and a miss for me. I was carving a real nice groove into this until the intermission, after which it takes a massive nosedive.

Sugarcane 2024
I found this to be rather tedious and meandering. I went into this wanting to learn more about the First Nations and their struggle for their land and basic rights, but the aimlessness of this documentary left me with more questions than I had coming into it. It was just mundane tasks sandwiched between blunt accounts of unspeakable violence that was hardly explored or given any pause. These people deserved better stories, but they also deserve a better telling of the ones that exist.
