It's been almost twenty years since I watched this film, so the time had come to revisit Sofia Coppola's breakthrough auteur feature. I felt that I was previously too young to make a meaningful connection to the subject matter in the story and my suspicions proved to be founded. Upon a second viewing, I saw how transcendent this screenplay is and was pleasantly reminded that it won an Academy award.

Amongst the existential themes presented, the keynote of finding identity…

"This isn't life, it's just stuff!"

    Yawn.

I hadn't seen American Beauty since its release, but even then, I remember being a thoroughly unimpressed teenager. Hoping to find the significance that garnered so much acclaim for this film, I gave it another shot to find the only significance it possesses is being significantly pretentious.

This movie is so stupid. It's so excruciatingly stupid.

I really enjoyed every mini story, but the Roberto Benigni section has me crying laughing.

Well, I'll say this, that was certainly a movie.

Kind of a strange screenplay, very specific choices made here. And yet, my attention was firmly on the screen. Marion Cotillard on fire in this.

Say it with me, people! PRACTICAL 👏 EFFECTS 👏 LOOK 👏 BETTER!

Holy moly, where to start? I certainly had a blast and I'm glad I saw it on a big screen. I caught myself holding my breath several times and had to gasp for air. Things take a minute to get going, but when they do it's like 0-100. The practical effects and set design, in addition to the sound design, are in the running for best of the…

    Wow.

I've been waiting to see this since it won at Cannes and I heard the unanimous buzz permeating around it. I was mildly concerned that it wouldn't live up to my expectations, but it absolutely did.

Anora was one of the funnest experiences I've had in a theater with a crowd in a while. Just an absolutely hysterical movie on the surface, and it's funny in a way only Sean Baker could provide because of how authentic it all…
