    14 year old May joins a wealthy land owner's household as the titular third wife.

    A very pretty film, lots of lush colours. Vibrant greens, reds, and a bit of Chekhov's yellow. The estate that May is sent to is beautiful. There is more than a bit of Zhang Yimou influence on in the use of colour for mood setting and emotional expression.
