Styling on James Cameron show him what’s REALLY Aliens of the Deep.
Fun, spooky, and campy - It went all-out with the 70's flavor. Lots of great visuals planting thematic seeds that take on more meaning as the show goes down-hill.
I'm always interested in horror that commits to filtering its spooks through a dry artificial media layer - they used that premise well, delivering some memorable scenes that wouldn't be possible without the gimmick.
This is a movie about penis-heads and sweating milk. And it is a perfect film.
It is a monument to design and restraint. With enough of both this potential B-movie transcends into a droning, KY-Jelly fueled, ever-tightening engine of suspense.
Here are some of the great set decisions they made:
- Giant monolithic human spaceship that is just as odd and un-inhabitable as the alien one. Very cool.
- Incomprehensible controls and tiny screens. Watching them being used looks like a religious ritual. Very cool.
- Don't have anything new to say about H.R.'s contributions, but they are very cool.
