Without a doubt one of the weirdest yet oddly fascinating documentaries I’ve ever seen. A seedy subject matter handled very well by the filmmakers. Don’t read anything before watching this so you can feel the full impact of those bizarre twists and turns.

    “You’re recycled spam!”

Robert Pattinson really does excel at doing weird voices…

Not Bong Joon-ho’s best, but a hilarious, quirky sci-fi that’s also a poignant look at how precious life is, and (surprisingly) the horrors of colonisation. Everyone is clearly having a blast and going as OTT as they possibly dare (especially Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette) which makes this even more fun to watch. Pattinson is obviously the standout though, his performance(s) so nuanced that it feels like a different character each time.

“You and me are one. We’ve only got each other.”

Continuing my Bong Joon-ho binge with this, which I’ve been meaning to watch for *years*. And while it might be more subtle than his other films, it’s still up there with his best, the story absolutely gripping and going in so many brilliant, unexpected directions (that third act is incredible). It’s Kim Hye-ja who really makes this memorable though, her emotional performance as the Mum who’ll do anything for her son completely stunning, and really helping us get a sense of her desperation as things take a darker turn.

“My name’s AIA. And you fucked with the wrong family.”

I really need to stop watching films because there’s a hot actor in it…

Some of the dialogue in this is so bad that I had to google whether AI had actually written the script. There’s no real horror either and the character’s decisions often don’t make sense (there doesn’t seem to be any reason Curtis wants to destroy the tech other than seeing a weird person waving their hand???). Also that ending is INSANEEE.
