I love everything about this movie except the plot and script. It's a visual feast, which is impressive when you consider that both the director and most of the sets and costumes were made for TV. Nearly every shot is glorious.
The story ... well, I'm going to say something nice: this film is deeply mistrustful of nostalgia in a way that is welcome in 2025. I'm not sure anyone making it really understood that the Nexus, with its Stepford reality of heterosexual domesticity, was the real villain, but sometimes interesting ideas happen by accident.
No one in this movie has ever heard a real American accent, and that just adds to the magic. Eternally grateful that Bowie would not authorise a biopic, because this is far more interesting. I assume the cast are still finding glitter in interesting places.
If Curt Wild is Iggy Pop, then in the Velvet Goldmine timeline, he made an appearance in Star Trek in the late '90s. And I'm okay with that.
